Evolutionary success - a practical course

In our modern society we all feel the pressure to succeed. This pressure is present on many levels. We feel forced to succeed in work, in school, in our relationships, and especially in life. Recently a new entry has been added to this list of 'must be successfuls'. We desire to be an evolutionary success.

We see a trend developing in which we seem to worry more and more about our success as a species. Pessimists or environmentalists see man- and womankind destroy themselves in the near future by an ecological catastrophe of biblical proportions. We are happy to announce that they should not worry too much.

Evolution has never been about the success of a species. In fact evolution could not care less about the fate of a species. Evolution has wiped out more species than exist nowadays. And never did it feel sorry. Evolution only cares about the individual. Individuals propagate and spread their genetic content. Species just sit around and get wiped out, or are transformed into a new species.

How can you then be successful as an individual? Well, ask your parents how to. They had great evolutionary success by putting you on this world, and they descent from a great line of forefathers and foremothers, who all managed to make a new individual, who managed to make another one. That is until you came along. Yes, this is the only time in your life you should take advice from your parents.
